Now That’s Inspiring

I was jogging along and I saw an artist.

But he didn’t see me…

I mean, he pretended like he did…

…and he even said, ‘hi,’ but I know better.

You see he was standing just off to one side of the running trail staring intently at a bench.

I can only assume that there was something about the way the light hit that particular spot after bouncing off of the leaves.

Maybe it struck him as unique or beautiful or insightful.

And as much as I would like to convince myself that a man running down the path gasping for air was worthy of his attention…

…I know…

…he’s an artist…

…so he probably didn’t see me at all.

THE EXPERIENCE STUCK WITH ME.

You know, I am kind of like an artist…

…but not for the reasons you would expect.

I am like an artist for the same reason that many of you are… .

..because I am a Christian.

THINK ABOUT THIS.

More and more in our culture we have the ability to draw the attention of others simply by taking in what others miss.

People pass by us as we are about our day and they notice that we are not just running the race like they are…

…we are not just gasping for air…

…we are focused.

We Christians, when we are being what we are meant to be…

…well that’s when we draw the attention of all of those around us to something…

…beautiful…

…true…

…and good.

THAT’S RIGHT

Like the artist we are helping others to see.

When you refuse to eat meat today simply and plainly because our Lord died on a Friday…

…you draw attention to the greatest event in world history.

When you speak good of another while those right beside you slander and gossip…

…you remind others of a time before the world fell.

When you approach the broken, and the dispirited, and the lost cause among us with a holy boldness that surpasses this world’s heroes…

…you declare to those running by…

…’Look over here, something beautiful and powerful is in our midst.’

And when those people in your life stop to take a look at what is so fascinating, it is then that they will see.

It is not the lighting but the LIGHT that has our attention.

So What Are You Waiting For?

Today, get out your sketch pad and focus.

Soon enough they will be running in your direction.

What do you want to show them?

Talk soon my friends,

In Christ,

patrick
