Kyla was about to go outside into the backyard without her shoes on…
…breaking one of her golden rules.
All of us must wear shoes in the backyard…
…it’s kind of her thing.
But before she could, our four year old spy saw the infraction.
“You don’t have shoes!” Jonah said in exasperation.
“That’s because I’m naughty,” Kyla playfully replied, hoping to still emphasize the point that breaking the rules is not a good thing.
Her statement did not have the desired effect.
Jonah’s face lit up, and with a loud, excited voice he said:
“Sometimes I’m naughty too!”
We just had to laugh at that.
SOMETIMES…
…the people around us have to be reminded that we are human.
Sometimes they just need to know that we are not…
…perfect…
…or flawless…
…or holier than thou.
And while I am not recommending that you go out and sin just to prove it to them;
…it is important for the spiritual development of many to encounter a saint in the making.
AND WHY IS THAT?
Because if you…
…who are flawed and imperfect and struggle with vice…
…can reveal a glimpse of heaven…
…maybe…just MAYBE…
….they have a reason to hope for themselves too.
So today…
…remember,
…it is okay if others know that you are naughty too…
…as long as you plan on showing them that…
…you do not intend on staying that way.
