I have never really been into fishing…
…but many people are, including my children.
For my kids there is an excitement about it, which I can understand as something untouchable becomes real and present, flopping around on the dock in front of them.
For others though they say it is the chase…
…or the quiet…
…or the company…
…that makes fishing as great as it is.
But I am more of an Old Testament fellow I guess;
…and there a fish attacks the foot of Tobias…
…swallows Jonah whole…
…and a sea monster known as Leviathon puts the fear of God into all who know of it.
But that doesn’t matter.
I am called to go fishing all the same;
…and so are you.
“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Mk 1:17
The world is full of untouchable lives, perfectly content in their busyness, living almost in another world even though they are swimming right passed us.
It is time to get out our rods.
And whether we like it or not…
…whether we find it calming to evangelize or downright frustrating…
…whether we feel like we are the only ones in the world who are at God’s work or consoled with the myriads of angels and saints all singing for the same soul…
...we have no excuse.
Today when Jesus puts that person in front of you…
…at work or at home…
Go fishing.
