Today I have the pleasure of sitting down with the most adorable children.
My own three year old Jonah has his friend Thomas over a for a visit.
And Sophia, our one and a half year old, is visiting with Thomas’ sister, Genevieve.
It might seem like a lot…
…but it really isn’t.
Since Kyla has the other four children out for the day…
…my schedule is full of colouring books and rolling around on the carpet (pretending to be a horse).
AND YOU KNOW…
…there would be practically no fighting…
…except for Sophia.
Because against all good theology…
…and good manners…
Sophia has decided to toy with that most pernicious sin called envy.
Genevieve has a soother…
…so Sophia wants a soother.
Genevieve wanted to play with blocks…
…so Sophia wanted those blocks.
WHY ARE WE LIKE THAT?
Why is it that we have trouble seeing our blessings?
Why is it we can only decide what we want when we see what others have?
Why is that we have difficulty smiling at the gifts that were given to us?
Now Sophia is not quite two years old…
…so she is somewhat excused…
…but what about the rest of us?
We are Christians.
We do not need more…
…or better…
…or what others have.
All we need is Jesus Christ.
He is more than enough.
SO TODAY…
…let go of all of those wants.
The prestige…
…the money…
…the power…
…the influence…
…the stuff…
…the advantages…
…the toys;
…in short, what others have that you may want.
CHILD OF GOD be done with it.
You and I have already been given everything.
Look around you…I mean really look around…
What has God given you that He didn’t have to?
What blessings has He sent you that you don’t deserve?
SO…
…let the baby have her soother and let her be content with it.
You have a mission that is greater than you can understand.
And envy…
…well that will only get in the way.
Thank God my friends,
in Christ, patrick
