Nothing is more drab than trying to interpret away the great angelic scenes from our holy Scriptures.
Especially here in the beginning of the Good News,
…where sleep is interrupted,
…messages are conveyed and shepherds are guided in a most unusual fashion.
So a Christmas without angels, as some seem to want it, is no Christmas that I want to be a part of.
For angels are the great stage hands that make sure all characters are properly in place when they are expected.
And the Christmas drama, which is a true narrative, only works if we allow all voices to be heard.
So let the angelic choirs sing out, proudly display that angel on your tree if you so see fit.
If you have snow, go out and make a snow angel, high five that guardian angel of yours (metaphorically of course).
Whatever you do, just let the angels be.
In the great story recorded in the Bible, they are more important than you could ever imagine.
I’ll see you tomorrow.
in Christ, patrick
